Jackie Kerler,  PhD Candidate, UNC Wilmington Biography: I received my B.S. in Neuroscience and B.A. in Sociology from Bucknell University in 2023. During this time, I was involved in research studying the effects of antibiotics on the brain and gastrointestinal tract in rats. I also worked with zebrafish and Drosophila to understand spinal cord injury and flight patterns, respectively. I was fortunate to be an undergraduate teaching assistant for three years for Introductory Biology and Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience and Neurobiology, and the Course for Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE), where I helped students learn microdissections, histology, and confocal microscopy. After my undergraduate degree, I worked in a lab studying transcription factors of the gastrointestinal tract. I am excited to begin my PhD journey studying neurogenesis and gliogenesis in sharks.
